Winter Coats

Coat shopping can be tedious, especially if you’re on your own in a crowded department store. If you’ve ever juggled your purse between your knees and waddled towards a mirror to see how it looks, you know what I’m talking about.

After the third or fourth coat, you start considering purchasing a coat you only have lukewarm feelings about just to be done!

Try not to let that happen this year. This guide should help take out some of the legwork. Pick out the style you like before you head out so you don’t waste time in stores that don’t have what you’re looking for.

Another option is to avoid stores all together and order online. When I do this, I usually order the coat I want in two sizes, since coat sizes can vary so greatly. If you go this route, be prepared to pay a little extra in shipping.

TrunkClub Women is another great option to avoiding crowded stores. One of their stylists will send you coats till you find your perfect fit AND they pay shipping both ways, so it’s a win-win.

So what style coat do you plan on staying warm in this winter?

I just bought the high neck Calvin Klein coat (pictured above in the middle) from Macy’s and just a heads up it runs a little big, so if you’re planning on ordering it online, go a size smaller.

Happy Coat Shopping!

Until Next Time,

If I get a new coat this year, which I am sort of undecided on because i have this same problem, i am going to go bright! big color. everyone’s so depressed about the recession, but last i checked coats with color didn’t cost any more than black or gray ones.

That’s a good point Posh Hippie! Bright happy colors don’t cost more, but color can limit what you can wear it with.

I bought this beautiful red peacoat from JCrew last year. It was the last one and on sale. I thought it was the best find ever! But every time I went to wear it, I was wearing a clashing color. I know a lot of those “old” rules no longer apply, but I’m not blind, I can tell what doesn’t look good in the mirror and it didn’t look good.

So if you’re going for a bright, make sure you keep your fall staples in mind, so you don’t make the same mistake. Now I just go bright with accessories: mittens, scarves, hats and rainboots. Love my tall bright red rainboots.

I have a bright red coat and I have no problem finding things to wear with it. i have a lot of purple accessories and clothes. the colors look good together, but i can’t help but feel a little like a member of those clubs for women over 60. i can’t remember what they are called. the red hat society i think. anyway, i’m not too worried about it. refer to my bio– i live in a town where no one cares about matching and eccentricity rules the day. i do need a gray coat though. hmm.

I’m really loving the high collar coats, I wish LA got cold enough to wear one. The heaviest thing i’ll be putting on me this winter is a sweater, if i’m lucky! It was 80 degrees last weekend in LA and it’s in the middle of October.  Anyone know of any cute sweaters? Let me know!
