It’s travel week here at ineedprettythings.com, which means you’ll be getting travel related posts, chalk full of tips and accessory recommendations, every day this week.
Since most journeys begin at the airport, we’ll start here, although all tips aptly apply to trains, automobiles, and boats (preferably yachts) as well.
All your bags are packed and you’re about ready to board your jet plane, except you can’t decide what to wear.
You want to look good when you arrive at your destination, but you want to be comfortable during your flight. It’s a conundrum we’ve all faced.
Let’s start out by looking at what NOT to wear…

Paris Hilton and new BFF Brittany Flickinger
1. Skip the velour tracksuit…So 2000 and late!

Victoria Beckham
2. Avoid Shorts. It can get cold on planes once the air conditioning gets going and you don’t want to have to worry about them riding up.

Lindsay Lohan
3. Leggings or Jeans with Stretch- Now, I’m not advocating that leggings be worn as pants here, merely suggesting that you wear something that will hold its shape after hours of sitting. Some jeans tend to lose their shape (unless they have lycra in them) and nobody wants to arrive to their destination with lumpy butt.

Lady GaGa
4. Flats over heels- As much as you love your heels, they’re not the most practical shoe to sport while hauling luggage or waiting in line for a cab. Get yourself a pair of fabulous easy-to-slip on flats that make you feel glamorous.
Now to what works…

5. Dark Clothing- Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal know what’s up. If you’re prone to spills, like me, dark clothing is a good bet, better for concealing stains.

Jessica Alba
6. Layer Up. You’ve probably heard this before, but layering is always a smart idea when traveling. Temperatures can change quickly on a plane and it’s never fun being too hot or too cold on one, so layer up. Best to start off with a really soft thin tee.

Lauren Conrad
7. Bring a Pashmina. The ultimate in travel accessories, a pashmina can be used as a shawl if you get cold, a blanket to snuggle with, or folded up into a pillow if you want to take a nap.

Diane Kruger
8. A Hat- I’m all for hats while traveling, quick and easy solution for plane hair.

9. Light Make-up– Of course this is always a personal preference, but I tend to feel gross after sitting on a plane for hours, having heavy make-up on only makes it worse. I feel best in just a light tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier’s and some clear nice smelling lip balm like Lancome’s Juicy Tube in Spring Fling or some Rosebud Salve.

Renee Zellweger
10. Skin Essentials– We all know the air on planes is dry. What you might not know is that if your skin is oily, the dryness might actually trigger an increase in oil production, so putting on additional moisturizer might not be for you. Depending on your skin type, bring some travel sized products to take care of your skin. Oily = blotting cloths and toner. Dry to Normal = light moisturizer and hydrating mist. And don’t forget to drink lots of water before, during, and after your flight.
Happy Travels!
Until next time,

I always wear pants when traveling on board a plane. Since you have to take off your shoes before boarding the plane, I would suggest sandals if you are going to a hot climate although I often wear sneakers which are comfortable but not practical when it comes to all these safety requirements. Layers is a definite–a jacket or sweater.
