March ‘09 Beauty Review

Every couple of months I get a craving for new beauty products. I don’t know what it is about applying a brand new lipstick or opening a new bottle of shampoo that  thrills me, but it does.  It’s an addiction I’ve been battling since before I was even allowed to wear make-up and frankly I’m tired of fighting it. Instead, I’ve decided to turn my addiction into a positive by sharing my opinions with INPT readers and inviting them to do the same with me. Since we rarely see bad or mediocre reviews on beauty products, hopefully these discussions can shed some light on which products are actually worth shelling out your hard earned dough for. We all know how disappointing a less than satisfying new beauty product can be, so why not help spread the word one product at a time.

Products purchased this month:

1. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion, $17

Review: At $17 bucks an oz. this stuff ain’t cheap, but then again you can’t really put a price tag on having your pimple’s life span cut in half. This is one of the BEST spot treatments I’ve tried. Don’t do what I did and shake the mixture, it clearly says do not shake in tiny writing on the 1 oz bottle.

2. Mac Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation, $28

Review: Some of you might find this surprising considering what a loyal MAC girl I am, but in my opinion this foundation doesn’t even compare to MAC’s Studio Fix foundation. It’s gel-based so it’s very hard to blend and the coverage isn’t all that good.

3. Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel, $21

Review: I love this stuff! You apply it just like you would regular brow gel and it instantly lightens or darkens your brows. It’s surprisingly natural looking and doesn’t wear off. Great for people with sparse eyebrows or for those who want a quick color change.

4. Korres Achillea Conditioner For All Hair Types, $19

Review: While I applaud Korres effort for a non-toxic environmentally safe product, the milk-like consistency of this conditioner makes it less than ideal. I used nearly half a bottle in one rinse because I was pouring it in my hand first. It was a good detangler, but my hair looked and felt pretty much how it always does.

5. Tarte FRXtion lip exfoliation, $11

Review:  I was so happy when I found this because I haven’t seen a good lip exfoliant since The Body Shop’s Lip Scuff, which uses fig stone granules to remove dead skin. Tarte’s s version uses sugar granules and isn’t as harsh, perfect for using right before applying lipstick.

Coming up on my next beauty review, I’ll put Smashbox’s Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer and Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Powder to the test.

Until next time,
