All my life I have struggled with 3 o’clock shadow on my legs and bikini area! Yes, on my legs and bikini. I was cursed with thick dark hair.
It was so bad that I could only shave every 4 days without getting irritated bumps. Let’s just say I didn’t wear skirts or shorts often and dreaded multiple beach days in a row. That’s when I decided to look into laser hair removal.
After 6 months of research, my life changed when I met Cyndi, who’s known amongst clients as “The Vagina Designer”. She is a bubbly aesthetician who is highly recommended from The Laser Image in Tarzana, California. She has been in the industry for a long time and guarantees results!
After reading about Trendspotter’s less than thrilling experience with laser hair removal a few years ago, I decided to write an article on how much the technology has progressed since then.
A lot of what was true back then isn’t the case anymore and I don’t want anyone missing out on this life changing treatment because of old info.
To help clear the air, I put together a little True or False quiz. See how you fair.
1. Laser Hair Removal is not for everyone. Only people with certain types of skin tones benefit from it.
SO FALSE – The Laser Image spells it out on their website:
“The most outstanding laser hair removal system on the market for all skin types, from light to dark, including tanned patients.” With the new technology out on the market, skin tones are not a disabler; however, I do suggest getting a portion of your body tested for hyper pigmentation results.
2. Laser works after one time.
SO TRUE and SO FALSE – This is a tricky one. Your hair grows in seven stages. This is why most aestheticians will tell you it takes 7 to 8 treatments to get rid of the hair entirely. However, your hair will get thinner with every treatment, so you will be able to feel the difference!

3. Laser Hair Removal is painless.
SO FALSE – Not that I want to scare anyone out of getting this fabulous procedure, but beauty can be painful. I highly suggest the numbing cream on all areas of the body. Once you apply numbing cream the pain is VERY tolerable. Cyndi gives you stress balls to squeeze and if you are lucky puts a bag of ice on the area before operating.
Here’s a pain chart of where laser hair removal hurts the most:

4. There is a strict regimen before and after a laser treatment.
SO TRUE – Before getting laser, it is important to stay out of the sun, and try to be as true to your natural skin color as possible. The lasers pick up on the contrast between your skin color and the hair follicle. When going in for your appointment, it is important to be clean-shaven. After laser has been performed, it is also important to stay out of the sun for a while, as well as use Hydrocortisone for relief on operated areas. Depending on your reaction the operated area may be red and irritated (itchy) for up to 2 days.
Winter is just around the corner and the sun will be going into hiding. It’s the perfect time to start looking into laser hair removal if this is something you’re interested in.

Jess you are so right! I am so glad you talked me into getting laser hair removal. It has done wonders for me! Believe it or not, but not having to worry about whether or not you shaved takes a huge toll off your shoulders. I’m already ready for summer 2010.
I thought I was the only one with the 3 o’clock shadow and restrictions on how often I can shave due to the irritation (which I have right now…shaved everyday on vaca, eeek). I have always been interested in laser removal…I just have to get the funds to get it done!
Thanks for the post!
I have also seen Cindy Wolfe, R.N. at The Laser Image. I cannot speak highly enough of her professionalism, knowledge, thoroughness and skill she has for hair removal. It has been 3 years since I have completed my treatments for my underarms and legs; I have NOT ONE hair in either of those areas! Awesome results!!! So nice to not have to shave! I have sent several family and friends to her.
Thanks for sharing Autumn. Would you consider yourself a prime candidate for laser hair removal: i.e. fair skin with dark hair? I have olive skin and tried laser hair removal when it first came out on a tiny patch of my bikini and it hyper-pigmented. I was so disappointed, but Cindy seems like the real deal and talented enough to work on olive skin. What’s Your Take?
Cindy Wolfe is the best Laser Lady in CA! She makes you feel so comfortable and really knows what she is doing. I have seen amazing results!!!
