Taking the Stand: Bootie Sandals

Let’s Review the Case: Bootie Sandals a.k.a Sandal Booties

Sandal Booties are like Hillary Clinton and Ugg Boots. People don’t generally have lukewarm feelings about them. They tend to either love or hate them.

No matter how you feel about them, you do have to respect the originality of the sandal bootie. As far as we can tell, this is a hybrid we haven’t seen (at least in our lifetimes anyway). Half bootie, half sandal. Sort of the Jeggings of footwear. (Refer to Exhibit A)

A few fashion-forward or fashionably brave young ladies have already been spotted wearing bootie sandals (Refer to Exhibit B). And the reviews are mixed.

While there have been some takers, the opposition has been strong. For instance, just a couple months ago, the Bootie Sandal was featured on the blog- Dang, Those Are Ugly Shoes. Not a good day for the Bootie Sandal. (Refer to Exhibit C)

Thank goodness we have The Pretty Committee to turn to in times like these. Are Bootie Sandals Booty or Booty-ful?

left-tieLeft-Tie: I hate bootie sandals.  One time this girl I know wore a pair with a short dress and I kept looking at her feet thinking eww eww.  I hate any kind of short boot anyway. I guess if you have cankles go for it. Otherwise, no thanks. Next!

Trendspotter: I know I’m probably alone on this one, but I like ‘em. I prefer the heeled ones over the flats. They’re not that far off from the cage bootie sandal in my opinion.  With short dresses or skirts, they can help add some edge and bring some balance.  However, I realize I am in the minority on this one. I tried a pair on at Nordstrom a couple weeks ago and my boyfriend, who likes everything I try on, shook his head in disaproval. First time ever, so it carried some weight.

Lady Lex: Ahhh…sh*t big bootie! I’m digging them. They’re way outside the box, so definitely not for everyone, but if you’re into that, like me,  they’re perfect for prancing around that box. Good for people with cankles too.

jessbiopic70_70Jess: These look more like a merge between a leg warmer and a sandal. Whatever the combo, they don’t cut it in my book. They cut off the elongation of your legs and make you look stumpy. I think ill pass on this one.

daphnethumbDaphne: Bootie sandals equals thumbs down, just don’t understand the concept or think they are cute in any way. Bootie sandal equals star trek/ space cadet. Also, don’t these make your feet sweat? The suede ones are atrocious. Who wears suede in sandal weather? The flat ones are definitely better then heeled, and the lower the ankle the better, but overall, no good.

serena-markstrom_biggerPosh Hippie: I don’t love or hate Hillary Clinton so I guess it’s fitting that I don’t have strong feelings about these. In general, the high-heeled ones are ugly and look destined for clearance racks. The flats can be pretty cute. I dig those metallic ones from Free People. If these can spare me from seeing even one dry, cracked heel, then I think they are a good thing. But you probably won’t be seeing me in them anytime soon. My whole foot deserves to be seen in sandal season.

ashley_cropped1Ashley: If Pocahontas were here today, she would definitely be sporting the bootie sandal-functional and sassy, I give this style a resounding Yay!

Verdict: While we appreciate the originality, we’re going to have to pass on bootie sandals. But maybe with a little revamping and for another season, we’d reconsider the case…

XOXO,
The Gals and Guys of INPT

Is the Ped-Egg that good or have your feet always been exceptionally smooth?

  • [...] Bootie Shoe: This was a serious love/hate trend of the season (see The Pretty Committee’s verdict on that one) Of course, if you were a fan, you probably wore your booties every day this fall, so here’s [...]
