Taking the stand: Silk Shorts

Let’s start by reviewing the case: We’ve already determined that one-piece silk jumpsuits are a no-no, (Thank you Tori Spelling) but what about silk shorts?

It’s seems boyfriend shorts aren’t the only new take on shorts this season. Silk shorts were also a trend on spring runways (Refer to exhibit A) and seem to already be making appearances at various cocktail parties and functions of the sort. (Refer to exhibit B)

And while some are already loving them, others warn to ‘keep your filthy paws off the silky draws.’

From Left to Right: Chloe Sevigny, Jessica Simpson, Lauren Conrad

So, what’s it going to be Pretty Committee, are these shorts smooth enough to make their way in or should they be reserved for those in the boxing ring?

left-tieLeft-Tie: God bless any article of clothing that can make Lauren Conrad look good. I ADORE silk shorts. They are sooo sexy. It’s the perfect piece to give a regular person celebrity flare. They’ve got a little shimmer. They highlight your legs. If I wasn’t against shaving my gorgeous gams I’d wear a pair!

trendspotterthumbTrendspotter: I think the silky cocktail short will go big. Personally, I love them. They’re so chic. I think they’d look adorable with a menswear vest and a simple clean tee underneath. Perfect thing to wear for a summer wine tasting event and/or a gallery opening. I saw Dakota Fanning wearing a pair recently on some late night talk show. It looked pretty cute.

ladylexinhamburgthumbLady Lex: Fun, flirty, and sexy! What’s not to love? The only thing I can see people running into problems with is the length. If you’re not a runway model, avoid pairs like the ones seen on the Dolce and Gabbana model. They’re shorts not draws.

jessbiopic70_70Jess: Silk is a fabric that should stay away from the bum…wedgies, sweat spots, I can only image horror stories that come from having silk shorts. If need be, I would stick to black, but I don’t think I will be stepping into that ring anytime soon!

ashley_croppedAshley: The silk shorts are awesome! It’s so nice to have a summer option other than a mini skirt, because let’s be honest, one ill-planned seating arrangement in those babies and the world gets to know you a little better than you’d like. I highly recommend pairing the silk shorts with fitted tops, even a simple tank tucked in with a cute necklace, belt combo is simple and sophisticated.

daphnethumbDaph: I think The Pretty Commitee should vote ‘Yes’ on silk shorts as they are pretty darn sexy. How can anyone not like these flirty, soft, silky shorts that can dress up any outfit? Only issue, silk wrinkles and stains very easily. Wearers Beware.

serena-markstrom_bigger2Posh Hippie: They are so cute. The silk shorts must only be on trial in a case of “hated because they are beautiful” type persecution. I am all for anything short because my legs are my best feature and I am petite. But I am getting a little too old to wear mini skirts in any but the most casual settings. I’m prone to spilling on myself, so that could be a problem, but besides that, I think they are the perfect for my body type. They are also great for women who are a little chubby in the waist, because since they already bare so much skin, you’d want to pair them with a more conservative top. Two thumbs (about to be in my silky belt loops) up.

Verdict: Pretty Committee approved!

XOXO,
The Gals and Guy of INPT
