Taking the Stand: Jeggings

Let’s Review the Case: Another leggings’ cousin lands in court. First it was Liquid Leggings, now Jeggings are causing a stir.

So what exactly are Jeggings?

jeggingsequation1

They’re a cross between a jean and a legging, denim leggings one might say and they’re all the rage in London and Australia right now. (Refer to Exhibit A)

And there’s signs this trend could be jumping the pond very quickly. A number of fashion-forward Americans have already been spotted wearing them. (Refer to Exhibit B)

Made from cotton, polyester, and spandex, these hot pants leave little to the imagination. They take the skinny jean to a whole new level. (Refer to Exhibit C)

Evidence:

Beyonce Knowles, Taylor Swift, Whitney Port

So, members of The Pretty Committee, Are Jeggings as bad as they sound?

left-tie4Left-Tie: The pair Whitney Port has on are as hideous as she is.  From the evidence there is too much diversity and so it’s neither consistently good or bad. That biz model has done wonders for The Gap, but I digress. I liked liquid leggings but wonder if we really need jeggings.  Plus I’m concerned wearing too many pants that don’t breathe “down there” is not good. Jeggings could be the reason Whitney Port always has those nasty yeast infections. So if that’s the case I think she should keep wearing them, but I don’t wish that on you our faithful readers.

trendspotterthumb4Trendspotter: Jeggings, seriously? I spotted a pair last weekend at Urban Outiftters and I gotta say they look worse in person. Despite what everyone, including nymag says, I think Whitney Port looks really cute in them. I think that whole ensemble she wore to throw out the first pitch is adorable and it matches her quirky personality.  But for the most part, I’m a little afraid of this trend, especially when I see it being paired with a crop top.  Yikes! I’m also afraid this may counteract all the progress we’ve made in the “Leggings are NOT pants!” arena, which could be devastating.

ladylexinhamburgthumb4Lady Lex: No way, No how! I saw these in the store the other day and was embarrassed for the mannequin. These are in no way flattering, what are people thinking?  They look like really really cheap jeans. Sorry ladies, the legging trends have got to stop somewhere and this is it for me.

jessbiopic70_705Jess: Not my favorite…when I go to try on jeans, I make sure that they are not too tight in areas that are unflattering.  Jeggings go against all of my rules.  The pockets are extemely unflattering to the butt and they just dont float my boat…Stick to black leggings or straight up jeans!

ashley_cropped4Ashley: I see the potential here for a skinny pant that is smooth and easy to layer long pieces over without the lumpy butt syndrome. Shield your eyes from the acid washed styles!

Verdict: We’re hoping this trend passes quickly before we start thinking they’re cute.

XOXO,
The Gals and Guy of INPT

I don’t know – I don’t think they’re as horrible as people make them out to be. Is there really that much of a difference between wearing jeggings + boots + a long top and wearing skintight skinny jeans? I think the ones by Juicy Couture are pretty cute.

However, jeggings do present fashion disaster potential if they are cheaply made, too thin, see-through, or worn with a shirt that is too short.

Good point KC. I haven’t seen the ones by Juicy yet. I’ll have to check ‘em out. Despite what other members of The Pretty Committee say, I think Whitney Port looks really cute, but to each their own. I think the key to this trend is definitely covering up the waistband.

Love your sites BTW and thanks for stopping in. ; )

Those are cute! They don’t even look like spandex. I would never expose my caboose like the girl in the pic though. What do you think about the ones with faux pockets?

not a fan of the faux pockets! it looks like the person airbrushed their pants on.
