Taking the Stand: The Lauren Conrad Collection

Let’s start by reviewing the case: Lauren Conrad, better known as LC, was introduced to the world via MTV’s reality television shows: “Laguna Beach The Real OC.” When LC graduated from high school MTV gave her a spin off- “The Hills.” It was MTV’s most watched show. The popularity made her way more famous than her ”Laguna Beach” rival  Kristen Cavallari, which paved the way for a reality star fashion line. After all, LC did go to fashion school in LA.

In 2007 she launched a clothing line called the Lauren Conrad Collection. It was very simple, in colors and in fit… dresses and blouses with a lot of flow. All pretty affordable too. At first it was a hit. (Refer to Exhibit A) The line showed at L.A. fashion week and was picked up by the trendy L.A. boutique Kitson. But LC’s duds didn’t sell and ended up in Kitson’s bargain bin before eventually being dropped.

In Spring of ‘09 the Lauren Conrad Collection was put on hold because of the bad economy.

Her rep sent out this excuse:

“In light of the economic climate, Lauren has decided to completely rethink her line… Lauren is going to revamp her line and design with more high-end fabrics… things she couldn’t do the first time around… with everything going on in the economy and in her life, she wants to rework her line and offerings. She will make announcements soon.”

But who needs an LA boutique like Kitson where only the likes of Paris Hilton shops…when you can sell your clothes to girls in the mid-west. As of Fall ‘09, Kohl’s is now carrying the line.  It’s been revamped California chic. (Refer to Exhibit B)

So members of The Pretty Committee… should LC’s collection live on or should it be buried in the hills of the local garbage dump?

left-tieLeft-Tie: The only time this girl picked up a pencil for the making of this snooze-fest of a collection was to write her name. The signature on the label is the only good thing about this line. Her first collection was so blah and blah, I almost believe a novice like LC put it together. The solid colors did not work for me. Her second collection or her attempt at “California chic” looks exactly like what it is, a bunch of ordinary clothes found in a department store. Very utilitarian not very fashion forward.

TrendspotterthumbTrendspotter: As much as I like L.C., I don’t think she has much talent for fashion design. She dresses herself quite nice, but there’s a big difference between being a good stylist and being a fashion designer. Perhaps she would be better suited as a wardrobe designer or a personal stylist, I dunno. She shouldn’t be on the runway though. Her new line isn’t hurting anyone, so I say let it live on at Kohl’s.

JessJess: I am a huge fan of Lauren Conrad… I will follow her wherever she goes.  Her first line was a tad expensive, but oh so cute.  I think with this new line she has hit a home run… Kohl’s picked up a winner!

KAWAIIKIDKawaii Kid: Sweet Lauren Conrad.  For some reason she is the only reality celeb that I can take seriously. She’s down to earth and sensible, just like the line that she has available at Kohl’s. It’s not anything too flashy or cutting edge, but they are all great looks that are in the best price range for today’s economy.  I say, carry on Ms. Conrad!

PoshHippiePosh Hippie: These clothes are like a song you have heard a hundred times but can’t remember a word or tell anyone what it’s about. They are cute, but forgettable. So why even put your name on them? Whose line is this anyway? Yawn.

Verdict: Her line isn’t committing any crimes so we’re dismissing the case.

XOXO,

The gals and guy of INPT
