Taking the Stand: Over-the- Knee Uggs

Let’s Review the Case:

Over-the-knee boots were all over the fall/winter ‘09 runways (Refer to Exhibit A) and the leggy models wearing them looked sexy and sultry in them.

But when it comes to life off the runway, wearing shiny patent leather over three-fourths of your legs and stilettos may be a tad TOO much. Can you honestly imagine yourself strolling into the office wearing these?

It seems hard to imagine that anyone could spend 8 hours a day in these shoes.

Ugg picked up on this and came out with a few comfortable pairs of over-the-knee boots. (Refer to Exhibit B)

Let’s not overlook the obvious here, Uggs are bulky boots, does making them taller and adding embellishments help or hurt?

This court would like to ask The Pretty Committee: Can comfort and style coexist when it comes to over-the-knee boots?

left-tieLeft-Tie: These boots are HOT. But it’s the classic hooker look. So wearer beware!
Definitely not a new look. Just some modifications to the standard Ugg boot. Girls will wear these until they get tired of getting dirty looks then they’ll go back in the closet and hide out until a) they feel daring again, b) they make another comeback or c) they get donated.

kawaiikidKawaii Kid: Over the knee Uggs are INGENIUS.  What is better than a slouchy sock ON TOP of the ever comfortable Uggs? Nothing.  I want!

trendspotterthumbTrendspotter: At first glance they look horrifying, but then they sort of grow on you. I think the 3rd style seen in Exhibit B (the sock-lined one) is pretty cute. Of course, some conditions apply, the first and foremost being: you should only wear these if you are under the age of 25. And even though over-the-knee boots are really “in” right now, I probably wouldn’t pick the Ugg to experiment with. They’re not terribly flattering and if you’re going to shell out $300, you should probably pick a pair that will still be in style next winter.

ladylexLady Lex: If you hear a pair of over-the-knee Ugg boots calling your name…RUN!!!!!!!!!!
U-G-L-Y, you ain’t got no alibi, YOU UGLY! HA HA! The over-the-knee trend is tricky. Jess and I were just talking about how with a stiletto they look too “prosty” (prostitute) for our liking. And not the Eliot Spitzer type “prosty,” the Hugh Grant type, you know the cheap ones that do quickies in the car and are back on the corner in under 5 min, think  Hustle and Flow. Otherwise, I love the over-the-knee boot, but you have to keep it classy with a flat or other low heel. Paired with a stiletto heel, you’re just asking for trouble.

jessJess: Although Uggs are soooo “5 years ago,” I’m secretly still a fan of these OH-SO-COMFY shoes. I’m not sure about the first pair in Exhibit B, the ones with the leather- like material…Sheepskin and leather don’t quite mix. At the same time, I’m quite intrigued by what the designers at Ugg did with the with the next two pairs. I would definitely wear over- the- knee boots, it’s a trend that will never die. As for the Ugg over-the-knees, I’d be open to trying them.

daphneDaph: The over-the-knee Ugg boot is a bit of a frazzling question. The only style I really approve of is the version with the woven knit part on top that looks like a sock. I think these look really comfortable, I’m not sure how great they look on, but I envision them paired with a short winter skirt that almost perfectly meets the sock, but doesn’t quite, so a sliver of your leg is showing. In my head it looks fantastic and seems like a great option… Free you legs from pants and snow! The other styles are not my cup of tea, they are trying to be over-the-knee-to-the-thigh trendy, and lets be real, Ugg boots are NOT trendy.

poshhippiePosh Hippie: Uggs. I can’t get over the name. It’s like they knew what people with eyes would say, so they circumvented it by naming themselves the short version of “ugly.” Ugg boots are ugly. Over the knee or under, they are the warm version of Crocs on the Richter Scale of style. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear them. Our culture has conspired to give us this ray of comfort, so take advantage.

Verdict: If you absolutely love ‘em and gotta have a pair, may we suggest confining them to the privacy of your own home.

XOXO,
The Gals and Guys of INPT
