Taking the Stand: Wintergreen Nails
Let’s Review the Case: It would take a fashion powerhouse like Chanel to make green nails chic. Let’s be real here, drug stores devote entire shelves to products promising to rid you of green nails.
But there was no trying to conceal the minty nails on Chanel’s Fall and Winter ‘09 runways. It was clear somebody was trying to make a statement. (Refer to Exhibit A)
And a statement they did make. Shortly after the show’s pics hit the internet, there was a bevy of lacquer loving ladies green with envy. Sites like alllacqueredup.com were abuzz with questions and comments. Is Chanel going to make it? When will it come out? What will it be called? (Refer to Exhibit B)
The polish hasn’t even been released and it’s already got a cult following. Reader boards are abuzz with ladies looking for where they can pre-order.
According to reports, Chanel’s already in production of the Jade green polish. It’s set to come out in Oct. 2009. Retail price $25. (Refer to Exhibit C)

So members of The Pretty Committee, will it be chic to preen thyself green this fall?
Left-Tie: As someone who has never worn nail polish, not even in my younger goth days… I’m surprised this color hasn’t popped up before. I like it. It’s soft and classy yet with an edge. You don’t have to hide them in the office and you can show them off at cocktail hour. Finally going green isn’t a drag, it’s fab.
Trendspotter: Did you guys click on the link provided in Exhibit B? There are women who think this nail polish is Jesus. I kid you not. The post following the one featured in exhibit B is titled ‘The Chanel Green is Coming.‘ Wow!!!! Black and minty green is reserved for peppermint patties and mint chip ice cream in my book.
Lady Lex: Shrek and Elphaba (from Wicked) are the first things that come to mind, but with all the crazy sh*t we’ve seen lately (mini top hats and rodent headbands), you gotta say ‘Why Not?’
Jess: Getting crazy with nail polish is a big plus for me. I only have one pet peeve: NO FLOWERS… solid colors only. I love the idea of green nails…fresh and fun, it reminds me of a day out at sea or mint chocolate chip ice cream. I also love the new blue nail polish wave…fun bold colors that are perfect for a smart and spunky girl!
Daph: I think the color is invigorating, especially when paired with the blacks and gray of fall. It’s a nice shade of green, much better than the neon greens popular right now, which I think are a little much and a bit “tacky.” This is a much cooler hue, like a pale cucumber. However, the anticipation for a nail color that doesn’t come out for another 3 months is what concerns me about this case.
Ashley: It doesn’t rock my world the way it seems to for the elite nail bloggers out there (by the way, who knew people lined up for hot polishes?). I feel slightly less cool for not knowing what hue by digits people are desperately seeking. The mint is cool, but I don’t think it’s stop the presses, drop what you’re doing, will pay anything for it cool.
Posh Hippie: These two Chanel shades are my sorority’s colors, though we called them apple green and salmon pink when I was in college. I can’t associate these colors with being fashionable. Love my sorority as I might (skee wee, sorors), I can’t do wintergreen out of the context of an Alpha Kappa Alpha event where everyone understands. I’ll have to recuse myself from this case.
Verdict: We’re staying cool as a cucumber on this one.
XOXO,

I think I may stand alone on this but I just can’t do green nails. Its too morbid for me. I just can’t do it. I say this as my nails are currently painted black. hmmm…..
