It’s easy to see how rock-stars can begin to think they’re above the law. Enamored fans have been overlooking their vices and giving them the benefit of the doubt since the word “rock-star” entered our vernacular. It’s so blatant comedian Chris Rock jokes about it.
“Another kid, get the fu*k outta here. I thought it was Groundhog’s Day. Yo, that’s how much we love Michael. We love Michael so much we let the first kid slide.”
While this may indeed be true for some, it’s certainly not the case for The Pretty Committee.
For they understand a famous mug does NOT a good trend make. (Please refer to Exhibit A)
To quote our friends over at Fashionista, “Love is Blind. We are Not,” which is why we’re not entirely sure how such a drastic hairstyle is spreading so quickly. First, London model Alice Dellal, then Cassie, then Rihanna. (Refer to Exhibit B)
And Bella Sugar is now reporting that Elle magazine’s beauty director, Kate Lanphear, just got buzzed. (Refer to Exhibit C)
Evidence:
Exhibit A

Britney Shears
Exhibit B

Alice Dellal, Cassie, Rihanna
Exhibit C

Kate Lanphear, Beauty Director of Elle magazine
Waste not a second more. We must bring in The Pretty Committee for a verdict before another head is shaved. Members of TPC, what’s going on, is this ‘do worth the buzz or simply shear madness?
Left-Tie: This look (on women) does not make the cut. Anytime Britney Spears is used as evidence during her crazy years it’s an automatic NO! I’m reminded of Grace Jones circa her “Conan the Barbarian” days and Sinead O’Connor in the 90s. Remember when she tore up that pic of the Pope? Cuckoo! Unless crazy angry chick is the look you are going for, clip your nails not your hair.
Trendspotter: Gasp!…….Gasp!……I’m praying this trend stops with that chick who works at Elle. Definitely not a haircut for anyone who has a normal job. It screams scary biker chick who parties at dirty dive bars every night. Imagine the person working the deli counter or your bank teller with this hair cut. Wouldn’t you be just a little afraid of them? Or what’s under their fingernails? I would be.
Lady Lex: Talk about a heads up! I can dig it on the right scalp, put a mini top hat on the buzz and you are good to go. Ha Ha! In all seriousness, I’m all for it, though I think if you’re going to shave, you should go all the way. Loved when Demi Moore did it in G.I. Jane. Girl Power!
Jess: With the amount of time it took me to grow out my long locks, this buzz cut is not on my hits list. You have to have the right head shape in order to pull this one off… Cassie had the most beautiful hair, I’m so sad they buzzed…only rockstars can pull this off. Not a trend for the everyday woman. Keep your hair ladies, you will thank me later.
Daph: It’s funny to me how these buzz cuts actually look good /decent on the women pictured above. It’s important to note that these are exceptions and not the norm. All of these women have elongated faces and very strong long jaw lines. I don’t think this style would fly on many women, especially those with round faces and a round head like me. It probably wouldn’t go over very well in most offices either, I guess it depends on the industry. And your bf will probably think you’ve gone off the deep end. I’m not surprised this hairdo originated in London, with the high Goth rocker scene in Camden. However, if you’re living on the other side of the pond, a.k.a. AMERICA, and are not a model, singer or actor, drop the ‘do and the act ( unless you enjoy acting like an ass). It’s OK to conform with hair.
Ashley: After my senior year of high school I made the big decision to try a pixie cut and I loved it for about 6 months, then I hated it. A year later I tried to go platinum and you can guess how that went. If you are bold, brave and have beautiful bone structure, I say why not try a buzz cut? If you hate it… cry a little and mark the calendar for 12 months from now, when you’ll probably try to make another outrageous hair decision– it’s women-nature.
Posh Hippie: Britney notwithstanding, I like the buzz cuts on women with strong jawlines and beautiful faces. There is something subversive and exciting about the cut. I think fashion-aware women with successful careers are above the law in someways. They are rock stars! Britney’s buzz was a meltdown– sure it was some sort of statement, but she was too whacked out to even know what she was saying with her statement, then immediately started wearing wigs. Hardly bad ass. I think this is the most confident hair trend I have seen in a while, but I don’t see it catching on too much. Asymmetrical ’80s cuts probably will make a comeback though.
Verdict: We order this hairdo contained to the following populations: 1) Rock-stars, 2) Those with exceptionally masculine jaw lines and beautiful bone structure, and 3) actresses playing mean angry chicks.
If in doubt about your jaw line and/or bone structure, email us at info@ineedprettythings.com. Honest answers always.
