Breathe it in, spring is just around the bend, along with a flood of new fashion decisions to make. 2010 is a year of indecision with distressed denim paired with sequin cardis and floral prints. I personally love the contradiction, it leads to interesting texture, color and style combos that make my heart skip a beat. There is room for interpretation and that’s what any true fashionista is just dying for — the opportunity to own the trends in her own way. Here, a few of the best looks sprouting up.

The Leather Jacket: This trend has been trucking along quite nicely since last summer, but what I love for spring is how designers have offered up super luxe leathers in beautiful creams and taupes for a look that embraces femininity and the edginess that will always be the leather jacket. Moto jackets are where it is at with details at the neck, specialty stitching and fitted shapes that enhance everything from denim to rompers.

Floral Print & Sequins: Floral print in all its glorious forms is out in full force for Spring 2010. Bold, modern, bright prints to classic, sweet, tiny florals, this trend is again about adding a feminine edge to your boyfriend jackets and jeans. Embellished separates like this cardigan by Sanctuary accomplish the same thing. You can pair these glorious sequined pieces with a basic tank or for the truly focused, with the perfect floral cami. Just make sure to balance with a distressed jean or a super classic skinny like the Paige Jegging seen below.

The Jegging & Distressed BF Jean: The top two pant trends that seem to be most wearable this spring are the jegging — the sexy, stretchy combination of denim and legging that’s been hanging around since last spring — and the boyfriend jean, again a hangover from last year.

The jegging is perfect to pair with all the super short “mini-dresses” that always pop out for spring, like this Susana Monaco piece that is snappy with its bright orange color and on-trend with its bold floral print.

Pair the boyfriend jean with all of your pieces that feature a feminine edge this season. I love the idea of layering a floral cami with a fitted leather jacket and pairing it with the distressed boyfriend jean — the perfect balance of ladylike and messy.

To top it off: Hair accessories are huge again this spring — bow headbands, huge flowers, tiny gem bobby pins — anything that adds a little sweetness to your locks is good to go this spring. I love checking Etsy for unique, functional pieces. One of my recent finds is this clip, which adds pretty to even the most basic tee and jeans look.
