The Path to Pretty Legs

LOS ANGELES: I first spotted the MBT or “More Booty Technology” sneakers on my Cardio Barre instructor. (In case you haven’t heard of Cardio Barre, here’s a link to a post I wrote on it.)

At first glance, they looked like some new space-age shoe? (Like a cross between L.A. Gears and an orthopedic shoe) I thought she had some sort of back problem she was correcting. Then, as I kept going I saw more and more people in the class wearing them. I had to see what the deal was with this shoe.

So, I went home and googled the name and found the “anti-cellulite shoe” (MBT). According to their website, this shoe is supposed to help tone muscles, burn more calories, and improve your posture. Could a shoe really do this?

It was time to put my reporter hat on. At my next class, I asked a couple of women about the MBT and they all raved about it.

Of course, now I had to try it out for myself, so I shelled out the $300 and slipped my feet into the weird chunky sneakers.

It took a little getting used to, but within an hour or so, I had adjusted to my new stride. By the end of my first day on them, I was exhausted. I felt my legs getting toned and I’m not sure if it was the weight of the shoe that was doing it or if it was the shoe actually working.

I started doing everything in them: shopping, working out, working, and hanging out with my friends (despite them making fun of me) and I noticed a BIG difference.

So yes, the shoes are great! Lady Lex endorsed! But like everything, they do have their vices…They are NOT and I repeat NOT very stylish.

At first, they made me a little self-conscious, but I’ve learned to deal. I figure it’s a small price to pay for “pretty legs!” I do however only wear them with pants, which limits my outfits.

Also, they are very difficult to travel with because they take up half your suitcase. I was really looking forward to taking them around Europe with me because of all the walking, but just trying to fit them into my suitcase after each city was a nightmare. I also just learned they should be replaced each year.

Despite the drawbacks, I still love my MBTs.
Let me know if any of you have them or if you have any ideas on how to make them look cute.

Yours truly,
Lady Lex
