Shoe Recall

When I read that Charles David was recalling 3,200 shoes because “the heel of [the] shoes can detach,”  a feeling of sweet vindication swept over me.

‘I knew it. I knew it wasn’t me. I knew there was something wrong with those stupid heels!’

All this time, I’ve been thinking it’s me. That I was just too heavy on my feet, too un-ladylike…  And while this could very well still be the case, it could also still very well NOT be.

My first pair of Charles Davids broke when I was in high school. They were a pair of black suede strappy sandals. They had a thick heel and straps that crossed at the ankle. I can’t remember exactly when they broke, but it was before midnight because that’s when my curfew was and I remember bringing home the broken heel to show my mom.

My second pair broke when I was in college. They too were black strappy sandals, but the heel was thin and there was only one strap.

I didn’t have more than one cocktail (okay, maybe two) in me when they broke. I wasn’t even dancing yet, just walking down some stairs when I felt my feel breaking off. It didn’t come off all the way, but was unwearable. I stumbled a little I think, cause I remember my date catching me and making a joke like, “Easy there, lightweight.”

While neither of the pairs that broke on me are part of this recall, I’m questioning whether mine also had a defect.

Shoes Being Recalled

In both instances mentioned above, the heels were brand spankin’ new, never worn outside my house or dorm room.

They weren’t Loubs, but they certainly weren’t cheap. Both pairs cost just under $200 and didn’t even last a SINGLE night.

When I brought home my second pair of broken Charles D’s, my mom just gave me this look and said, “What are you doing in them that this keeps happening to you?”

‘Getting crazy at school dances mom, what else?,’ is what I wanted to say, but didn’t.

“You’re just so rough on things. You need to be gentler, maybe practice walking in them with socks at home.”

I would love LOVE to hear from anyone else who’s experienced anything similar in Charles David shoes.

Am I being too quick to place the blame?

Until next time,

    Trendspotter,

you’re definitely not too quick to blame. I’ve had a similar occurrence. I always feel very wobbly in Charles David shoes. Never secure and I thought the same way, maybe I don’t know how to walk in heels? Or maybe I walk too hard or distribute my weight wrong? Well whatever the case may be, I think you’re on to something that all CD shoes might have a defect. Which is a shame for the price you pay.

Thanks Lady Lex. Glad to know I’m not alone.
