It was not surprising to me when Zooey Deschanel decided to be a musician as well as an actor. Didn’t she charm you in “Elf” during that shower scene with Will Farrell? I knew about her music project well before the album came out because M.Ward, the “Him” in her duo She & Him lives near me and I follow his career. The single “Why Do You Let me Stay Here” came out early.
This song is a simple, retro winner complete with toy piano, and I think it’s great they are using it to promote Zooey’s new movie “(500) Days of Summer,” which comes out today.
Though I’m a little thrown by the cartoon gore in the original video, I think it’s more interesting.
Though so-so about the new video, I am moved by Deschanel’s ’50s housewife-gone-dancing outfit. So I did the Pretty thing, and I found an outfit inspired by it, with a more modern twist.

For a top, I think this Charlotte Tarantola cropped cardigan in cream would look great with a solid color camisole. Or, this leotard I chanced upon today. It’s on sale for under $10 and from a business in M.Ward’s home city of Portland, Oregon.

You can thank me later for turning you onto Le Train Bleu because if you are too busy to shop for unique items but hate having things too many other people own, this online boutique is your new best friend. Or if you are not too busy to shop and just like unique things, this is the site for you.
Most of the high-waisted skirts out there right now are straight from the ’80s or pencil skirts. But this outfit is all about movement and joy, so I thought this tulle number from Urban Outfitters was perfect with the ballerina leotard.

Finally a mid-height heel for dancing. I was thinking a Capezio shoe in a neutral would be good, but these are a little more stylish and still comfy enough to dance in.
Now get out there and charm the folks with your shuffle step and your cha-cha-cha.
