One of our lovely readers wrote in requesting that we do a piece on ‘Prettifing Your Dorm Room’. What a great idea! While those days are long gone for me, I still get excited for those just beginning their college career. Oh the adventures and fun times that lay ahead! You will spend a good amount of time in your dorm room, so why not make it as nice as possible.
Here are some ideas:
First and foremost, you’ve got to get organized, so that you can make the most of your tiny space. This means stocking up space savers. Some of the ones I found most useful in my dorm room were: a double hang closet rod, hanging shoe bag(s), scarf/accessory hanger, and slide out drawers for under your bed.
Now to the fun stuff. The focal point of your dorm room will be your bed, so I suggest investing in some nice durable bedding and then picking accessories to match it. Don’t forget to get two pairs of sheets so you have a spare set to put on while you do laundry.
Here’s one of my favorite bedding sets that would be perfect for a dorm room:

(Clockwise from top left) Ralph Lauren’s University Girl Bedding Set, Flag Bunting to decorate the walls,Word Wall Hooks, Hi Light Task Lamp, Alarm Clock, Pink Pop-Up Hamper.
I’m a big fan of Ralph Lauren’s denim comforters because they’re very comfy and durable. They also work with practically every decor scheme you can imagine, so you can change things up easily and without spending a lot.
Other cool accessories to have in your dorm room, sorry these are more fun than pretty.

(Clockwise from top left) Fill Me Up Collapsible Vase, Bamboo Dry Erase Board, Twister Game Rug (the girls next door to me had this rug in their room and it was a hit), Hamburger Phone.
This post brought back a lot of good memories. What was your favorite dorm room accessory? Please share.
Until next time,
