I just received an invite from a friend who’s throwing a 1960’s inspired party to rewatch Season 2 of Mad Men (July is just too far away for some of us). I’m a big fan of the show and a little jealous that I didn’t come up with the idea myself, but whatevs, I’m excited.
The hit show debuted in 2007 and immediately made a splash, maybe because of all the Emmys. Whatever the case, we began to see references everywhere, from the runways to SNL’s Don Draper Guide, which is hilarious.

Until now, I’ve enjoyed watching the craze from the sidelines, but now that I’ve been called into play, I’ll need the proper attire.
It’s amazing how once you start looking for a trend, you see it everywhere. I had no idea just how MUCH influence the show’s had on fashion. FCUK is a gold mine for anyone looking to achieve this style and so is Target, believe it or not. Here are my favorites from FCUK.

Isaac Mizrahi did a whole 50’s-60’s inspired line for Target that just screams Betty Draper and Peggy Olsen. I didn’t list prices for these items because they’re marked down so often, so everything is super cheap, practically free.

While I’m a big fan of the line, I’d like to pay homage to my favorite MM character — the sexy Miss Joan Holloway. If you haven’t seen the show, she’s like the 60’s version of Samantha from Sex and the City.

Her style is a bit more daring than what we see on the other girls. Keep in mind daring in the early 1960’s is a fitted pencil skirt. Here’s what I’ve come up with, two of the dresses (far left and far right) are from Nordstrom, the other one is from this little gem of a website I found called Stop Staring, which sells vintage-inspired clothing.

Let me know what you think of my choices so far.
Yours Truly,
Lady Lex

P.S. I was thinking about bringing these (bubble gum cigarettes) to the party. Do you think they send the wrong idea? I don’t want anyone to think I’m an advocate of smoking, they just remind me of when I was a kid. BTW, you can get 24 packs for only $8.27 right now on Amazon.
