June Beauty Review

spiediI’m not proud to admit this, but this month’s beauty review was in fact inspired by Heidi Montag. WAIT! Before you click away, give me a chance to explain.

There’s been no escaping her, even CNN was covering Speidi’s pathetic departure from “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here …”

And when I found dry shampoo was the reason Speidi bailed early, I couldn’t help but wonder about it.

I’d always been curious about the stuff, but just never really gotten around to trying it. Thinking I might be missing out on something great, I seized the opportunity and bought a couple of different brands to review.

Overall, I have to say, I don’t think dry shampoo is for me. While the idea of  getting to skip a wash and blow-dry is very alluring, the fact that you can’t run your fingers through your hair once you’ve applied it is a big deterrent for me. To the outside observer, yeah, my hair looked great, but behind the great hair facade, I felt dirty.

The two types I tried were: Bumble & Bumble’s Dry Powder Shampoo ($35) and Big Sexy Hair’s Volumizing Dry Shampoo ($17). Of the two, I liked the Bumble & Bumble Dry Shampoo better, but I’m not writing home about it.

The B & B was gentle and did its job, but it’s really messy. It’s colored, so you have to be really careful when using this product. You will get it on your clothes, so you’re going to want to wrap a towel around you or get dressed after you use it, but then you’re limited to button downs and so forth.

I wouldn’t recommend Big Sexy Hair’s Volumizing Dry Shampoo. It’s got a nauseating watermelon smell to it and it feels really gross and oily. I literally ran to wash my hair right after I used it.

ojonbestofsephora

Ojon’s Rub-Out Dry Cleanser ($24) has gotten rave reviews and was a Best of Sephora winner last year. I’m sort over my whole dry shampoo run, but if I get an itch to try them again, I’ll probably splurge for this one.

Have  you tried a dry shampoo you like? Please share or tell me what you think about Heidi creating her own line of dry shampoo? I know you’ll have something to say about that.

Until next time,

I finally got around to Ojon’s Dry Shampoo. I have to say it’s head and shoulders above all the other’s I’ve tried. Doesn’t leave you hair feeling starchy or anything. The fragrance in it was a little strong, but I’m extra sensitive to those types of things. Definitely not as bad as the Big Sexy Hair’s watermelon scent.
