An Honest Review of Jimmy Choo for H&M

When I heard Jimmy Choo and H&M were collaborating on a shoe line, I couldn’t wait to see what they would come up with. Finally, Choo’s edgy brilliant soles would be accessible to us working girls.

Best known for their design and craftsmanship, a pair of Choos aren’t just any old pair of shoes. They’re also known for being comfortable. But comfy stilettos don’t come cheap. A pair of Choos generally cost anywhere from $395 to upwards of $2500.

This explains why fans all over the world lined up outside H&M stores on Nov. 14th– to get a pair of these shoes and what they thought would be H&M prices.

I personally decided to skip the crowds and wait a few days to check out the new inventory.

When I heard the price points ($70-$299), I couldn’t help but wonder if the shoes were really worth their value or were they just being overhyped?

After seeing them firsthand, let’s just say I would rather spend my money on a nice pair of Sam Edelman or Jessica Simpson shoes.

Now I’m a girl who likes to spend her money on good shoes, good jeans, and good purses. Yes, I said it — I will splurge on a good pair of shoes. But if I’m going to splurge, it’s going to be worth it and the shoes and prices I saw were not worth it.

Most of heels were priced between $99 – $149, the over the knee boots were $299, low boots $149 and flats were $70.

Far from a steal in my book (Especially for H&M.  Those are Nordstrom and Bloomingdales prices).  It’s like going to Forever 21 and paying $150 for a pair of shoes.  In my mind, that’s ridiculous.

The PR reps from Jimmy Choo sought to make it clear that this line was “not an attempt to launch a modest-priced line permanently, but to offer something to the fans who dream of owning an authentic item from Jimmy Choo without taking out a second mortgage on the house. “

You know what I have say to that –Thanks Jimmy Choo, but instead of having to take a second mortgage on my house, all I had to do was re-finance my car payments.

Over-the-knee-boots

If you’re going to pay $299 for a pair of boots (price of boots pictured above), why get a mass produced knock-off version? With a little due diligence, you could probably find real Jimmy Choo boots for $500.

My advice, don’t believe the hype, you’re NOT missing out.

Your gal,

Jess

I think that it depends from where you are. If I still lived in NY, I probably would have skipped it too. Afterall, with all the private sales and sample sales, you will probably have the chance to own a pair of Jimmy Choos for $300 or under. But I live in Switzerland now, where
    a. there are NO decent shoes
    b. leather shoes will set you back at least 100 dollars, anyway.
It might as well be a pair of lovely strappy sandals that are also really comfortable. I bought the patent leather strappy sandals  and I love them. It doesn’t bother me they came from H&M, and I don’t think the price is exaggerated, since they are made of real leather and well-made, unlike most of the shoes they normally sell.
I think for European gals, who have a much harder time getting their hands on Jimmy Choos at affordable prices, this line was a godsend.
