Summer is right around the corner and sadly, for most of us “adults” that doesn’t mean summer break, but soaking up the rays during our lunch break from the office. But, let’s embrace it and be as summer chic at the office as possible.   So, without further adieu– Your How to Guide for Dressing in the Scorching Heat…

Step One: Invest in the dress. Nothing is more comfortable and perspiration reducing than a summer dress. This can be as easy as a lightweight jersey or cotton poplin wrap dress– all around flattering.

If this style hits you wrong at the waist look for a dress that has an empire waist and A-line skirt– giving the illusion of a skinny mini waist!

Step Two: Ride the wave with Bermuda Shorts. That’s right, I am advocating a short in the office, but only if your office is business casual. When shopping, be sure you find a short that hits right at the knee, not above or below. Above the knee is not work appropriate and mid-calf will give you stump legs! I have always loved Theory’s bermuda/blazer combos.

Step Three: Protect your best with underarm sweat guards for your favorite shirts & sleeved dresses. Everyone sweats, you just don’t have to look like you do!

Step Four: Repeat after me: if I’m not six feet tall, the cropped pant isn’t doing me any favors. The only really acceptable “cropped pant” for work is the ankle cigarette– very Audrey Hepburn classic. There are lots of available this year, but beware, stores like Bebe think it’s OK to do this:

It’s not! And I know our INPT readers are much much classier than this! Go for something like these…

Step Five: This is really just a reminder step– keep investing in quality layering camis and tanks. They’ll keep you cool under your jackets and lightweight sweaters and can be worn all year long!

Happy Shopping! If you have any styling questions, post ‘em in the comments section below or email me at Ashley@ineedprettythings.com…Luv to hear from ya!

Cheers,
