“What do I get for my friend who bought her house last year and has yet to put anything on the walls?” This is the question I have been asking myself for the last year. Perhaps you know someone in a similar situation? She assures me it’s a slow process, but I am here to get the ball rolling.
This year, when shopping for that perfect gift for your “nester”, consider a few of these things to help transform their house into a home!
Let’s start from the minute they walk in the door. Instead of throwing their keys in their pocket or on a dresser where they’ll never find them the next morning, how about these memorable Human Key holders?

Available at Wrapbles.com for $20.
Now let’s address those bare white walls. Give them something to come home to with these gorgeous, full of bohemian chic tapestries. (My friend proudly hangs one on her wall already.) Not only do they put an end to the terrifying “white wall” but when you purchase one, 50% of the profit goes towards ending violence toward Asian women. Art and world peace, that sounds like a pretty special gift to me!

When it’s time to crack open that bottle of wine they have been dreaming about all day at work, give them something they can savor as much as they will when that bottle is ready for them the next day.

Crystal Bottle Stopper, available at Plantationdesign.com for $50.
Books are also great gifts for the home! But not just any book will do. Think huge and full of fun images. A few stacked on a coffee table welcomes comfortable conversation and social interaction. It also adds atmosphere… the magic of homemaking! Here are some of my favorites:

LIFE 2000-2009: The Decade that Changed the World, Installations by Architects, 100 Contemporary Fashion Designers
Here are a few extra ideas for those homemakers who have EVERYTHING:
A comfy throw pillow that reminds them life is good.

Keep Calm and Carry On Pillow $20 at Heliotrope.com.
Show them who you think is the fairest friend of all with some this fun mirror set.

Fairest Wall Mirror Set by Umbra $23 also at Heliotrope.com.
These are on my wish list and lucky for everyone they’re ON SALE.

Williams-Sonoma Home Cashmere Throw $150-$200.
Worst case scenario, unlike you, you’re friends have been a little naughty this year… try this subtle hint:

Lump of Coal Glycerin Soap – Grapefruit Orange by Twin Dream Creations $5.50 on Etsy.com
Most importantly, remember, that no matter what you get for your friends for their home, there is nothing that makes a house feel like a home more than filling it up with your friends.
Hearts and Stars,
