Just wanted to let you ladies know I attended some great shows at Fashion Week (Spring 2010) here in NYC. Like Lady Lex said in her recent post on L.A.’s Fashion Week, it’s probably not the right time to bombard you with what I saw on the Spring runways when all you can think about is that gorgeous new winter coat you want and those killer over-the-knee boots.
However, there was one event from NYC Fashion Week that I wanted to share with you– Fashion’s Night Out. It was a new element added this year to help promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion. The idea was suggested by Vogue editor Anna Wintour (BTW, has anyone seen The September Issue yet?)

It was held on the fourth night of Fashion week and was in my opinion an absolute blast. Stores stayed opened until about 12 a.m., provided shoppers with complimentary champagne, wine and other tasty treats. There were D.J.’s and celebrity appearances, it was like a huge shopping party!

The line went around the block at Bergdorfs (where I was), but it was worth it to be served drinks by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen!!! Other designers were out and about as well, playing games, giving prizes or just chatting it up. The lover level cosmetics section gave free products and complimentary facials. At the Chanel Store in Soho, manicurists painted peoples nails with the highly sought after Jade color.

There was an extra level of service and fun that I’ve never seen before in my 20-something years of living in NYC. But despite all the glitz and publicity, Forbes.com is reporting the event wasn’t much of a success. “There may have been 700 in-store events to choose from in New York City alone, but consumers kept their wallets snapped shut,” the article says.
The mayor of NYC is now discussing other ideas to help the fashion industry survive, read more here.
Despite, lower than expected profits, there is still talk of bringing Fashion’s Night Out back next year, which I really hope they do. If you have the opportunity to come, you definitely should.
Apparently the hottest items that night were the commemorative Fashion’s Night Out T-shirts ($30), which are pretty much sold out everywhere, except E-bay, where they’re going for double the price. I should have stocked up.

XOXO,
Daphne
