Fall 2009 is here in full force. Crisp winds, dark evenings and an overwhelming desire to bake and eat everything warm that comes out of the oven. The turning leaves also mean a change of wardrobe– adding new textures, fabrics and the much sought after “fall colors.”
Fortunately, thanks to Pantone we know exactly which colors we should be hibernating in this fall and winter. A quick glance at the Pantone Fall 2009 Fashion + Home Color Report paints the perfect picture.

Unlike fall seasons of the past couple of years, deep rich jewel tones – amethyst and emerald — aren’t as dominating this season. Rather, the palette is a mixture of soulful crimson red, titled American Beauty, and a deep sea reminiscent Majolica Blue.

Many of this year’s colors have a softer edge to them-Rapture Rose and Purple Heart take the edge off of fuchsia and purple, giving more delicate skin tones an easier color to wear.

What’s clear is this palette was created with, like almost everything else right now, the economy in mind. These colors blend well from season to season. They won’t be defined as fall colors and a deep red silk top worn in January with wool trousers can just as easily be worn through July with a flirty pencil skirt making clothing last longer.
Fashion is always a huge indicator of economic and social climate and this fall’s palette is the perfect gauge. Home to THREE shades of gray, the Pantone Fall Color Report is hoping to bring pops of gentle color out against soft grays, giving us a glimmer of hope in an otherwise challenging 2009.

How to put it all together:

(Clockwise from top left: Miss Me Sheer Floral Lace Blouse $74, BCBG Cropped Leather Jacket $398, Paige Hidden Hills Skinny-Black Sea $180, Steve Madden Jessii Ankle Boots $129.)
A sneak peek at Spring 2010’s Color Report shows designers are jumping on the happiness bandwagon and full, beautiful colors are on the horizon for a sunny and powerful 2010.
Color us Happy!
Cheers,
Ashley

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite color this season. I’m loving all of them! The grays are great mixed in with the purples and pinks. Thanks ash for the color scheme.
I’m loving the purple. And Ashley, what a great description of a color: “soulful crimson red”– I think you should have your own TV show.
i love the creme brulee!! haha it is a great nuetral shade that will go with everything throughout the winter!
I’m with Jess, loving the classy creme brulee. Wouldn’t mind having a creme brulee right now too, HA HA!
