I’ll be heading to Greece next month to visit the Ionian Islands. I’m so excited. Don’t be jealous, I promise to take lots of pics and to share any great gems I come across during my travels.

While researching the trip, I stumbled upon this little beauty…. The Christina O.

One of the most celebrated yachts throughout history, the Christina O is now available for private charters. For more on how to charter, go here and here.

Aristotle Onassis purchased her shortly after WWII and spent close to $4 million turning her into one of the most luxurious and elegant yachts in the world. After all, she would become his “floating home” for years to come.

It was aboard Christina’s decks that Onassis entertained stars and great dignitaries such as Winston Churchill, King Farouk of Egypt, Marilyn Monroe, and Frank Sinatra.

It’s also where he and Jackie held their wedding reception.

When Onassis died, he left the ship to his daughter Christina, who gave it to the Greek government to use as a presidential yacht. The ship was allowed to decay and then put up for auction in the early 1990’s, according to Wikipedia.

An Onassis family friend bought it in 1999 and spent over two years refurbishing the ship to its golden days. Now Christina-O (in all her glory) is available for private charter.

What can you expect on board? 18 staterooms, a jacuzzi and the infamous mosaic-tiled swimming pool… (BTW, the mosaic floor rises at the push of a button to become a dance floor.)

A small gym, a children’s room, and a helipad (of course!)…

A dining room with a sunken marble floor, Baccarat crystal lamps, and a table that seats 40….

There’s numerous lounging areas, including the Callas Lounge, which includes a Steinway piano, and Ari’s Bar, which contains original barstools upholstered in a very soft, fine leather made from the foreskin of a Minke Whale. (Thank you Wikipedia).

If you ever find yourself on board the Christina, you’ve gotta film yourself singing “I’m on THE boat mofos.”

Until next time,
