Black Friday Sales

Having covered Black Friday Sales for the past six years, I can say with some confidence (but little proof) that the best deals seem to be in tech.

If your S.O. has been jonesing for a Blu-ray player or your trusty laptop ain’t so trusty anymore, this might just be the time to make a researched splurge. So make yourself a pumpkin spice latte (via the kitchn) and start searching the web NOW for smokin’ hot deals.

Just because you’re not going to wake up early and go stand in line (You didn’t think we were did you?), doesn’t mean you can’t save big too. From what I’ve been reading, most of that can be avoided with a little preplanning.

In fact, it seems a lot of retailers have already started their Black Friday sales, which is why NOW is the time to start looking.   According to Black Friday Ads, which dubs itself the official site of Black Friday sales, this year’s best tech bargain may have already passed us.

On Nov. 7th, Wal-Mart was selling the Xbox 360 Arcade console for $100.   Well technically, the console was being sold for $199, but you got a $100 gift card at the time of purchase, so essentially $99.  According to the authors of BFads, this is the “best deal [they’ve] ever seen.”

If Wal-Mart plans to run similar deals this weekend, I hope they offer comparable deals online because you couldn’t pay me to go to a Wal-Mart on Black Friday. Not after last year’s fiasco. (Click here to read about the Wal-Mart employee who got trampled to death).

If you’re not about Wal-Mart, there’s still plenty of deals to be found without leaving the comfort of your own home.

If the results from your google search leave you feeling overwhelmed, head on over to BlackFriday.info, which lists ads for tons of big-box retailers. Another good resource is Gizmodo’s Ultimate Black Friday List. It’s comprehensive, yet manageable.

I hope this helps. Let us know of any *amazing* deals you spot by posting a comment below and we’ll help spread the word on Twitter.

Until next time,

Trendspotter, I dread Black Friday! The hunt, the lines, the stroller hitting your ankles…I dread it! Even with some pre-planning, I think i’ll just stick to the part where we make the pumpkin spice lattes. Let me know how it goes.
    Yours Truly,
