That’s right, two tickets to Obama’s Inaugural “Youth Ball” recently arrived in our own Posh Hippie’s mailbox. How exciting!

The entire event will be broadcast live on MTV Tuesday night for those of you who wanna watch.  They haven’t announced who will be performing yet, but I have no doubt attendees are in for a real treat.

Posh Hippie departs this Sunday, so the clock is a ticking.

I spoke with our belle last night and it appears her fairy godmother is on vacation or something, because she still doesn’t have a dress.

So what does one wear to such an event…

Well, one of the organizers said she thinks a full on ball gown won’t be necessary as this is the first-ever “Youth Ball” (ages 18-35) and as such she expects to see more short gowns and cocktail dresses. Fashion History in the making!

Posh Hippie has already promised to take lots of pics of all the winning ensembles she sees that night, but until then she’s busy with her own hunt.

I’ve scrounged up some inspiration from past inaugural balls to serve as inspiration.  I went back as far as Carter and here are the standouts.  Believe me some should stay right where they are –in the past!

Always a good place to start, Jackie O.  Classic, timeless, unforgettable.

Nancy Reagan’s inaugural dress, pretty daring for the day don’t ya think?  She paired the dress with elegant long white gloves to give it just the right finish.

Love her or hate her, Hillary’s dress was beautiful.

Okay, it wasn’t an Inaugural Ball, but Katie and Michelle both looking stunning at the 2005 Legends Ball.

I only show this because I think all three dresses started off as good concepts.  They somehow all got lost in translation though, so sad.

If anyone else has an idea or resource for our girl, don’t be shy.  Email me at trendspotter@ineedprettythings.com

Until next time,
